S*Maine Orchid is located in Uppsala, a little bit to the north of Stockholm, in a house were you’ll find one person, called Åsa Ohlsson, and eight paws of Maine Coon that hopefully, if I’m lucky, will listen to the names Pillo and Saca... Pillo is my now neutered male and Saca is his daughter, which I hope will be the beginning of my own breeding program. My male has foundation origin and even more does his daughter. I like the idea of broaden the Maine Coon population with new blood, it helps us to keep a healthy breed in the long run. Breeding with foundation cats does not always go hand in hand with champion titles etc, but my priority concern is the overall health of the cat and the breed. We’ll have years to correct the errors in type, IF we have healthy cats to continue with. I scan and x-ray my cats before I use them for breeding according to the Maine Coon-katten health-program here in Sweden. I also use cats that are negative for Meurs (A31P) HCM mutation.
